UREA
Is UREA safe for seborrheic dermatitis?
Urea can be useful in a seborrheic-dermatitis routine when dryness or stubborn scale is part of the problem. It helps skin hold water and, at suitable concentrations, can soften thick or flaky outer skin. Direct scalp studies tested urea together with lactic acid and propylene glycol, so they support the combination product rather than proving what urea does by itself.
The right product matters. A moisturiser with urea and a stronger scale-softening scalp treatment can feel very different, and already-cracked or inflamed skin may sting. Mild smarting or burning was reported in the combination studies, although the researchers could not assign that effect to urea alone. Start with the directions on the exact product and stop if irritation persists.

What is UREA used for in skincare?
Urea is a small water-soluble substance that is also found naturally in the skin's moisturising system. In skincare it acts as a humectant, helping the outer layer hold water, and at higher amounts it can act as a keratolytic, helping soften and loosen built-up scale. This is why it appears in moisturisers as well as more targeted products for rough, dry or scaly skin. The percentage and the rest of the formula determine which role is most noticeable.
