SORBITAN CAPRYLATE
Is SORBITAN CAPRYLATE safe for seborrheic dermatitis?
Sorbitan Caprylate is generally a lower-concern emulsifier for seborrheic dermatitis, although no ingredient can be guaranteed for every person. It helps stabilise formulas and may support preservation, but it is not a treatment.
A cosmetic safety assessment supports the reviewed sorbitan esters, while a published case shows that allergy is possible. Its C8 caprylate structure is outside the C12 to C24 free-fatty-acid range used in the commonly cited Malassezia growth study, and the ester itself was not tested there. A repeat itchy rash still deserves attention even when population-level concern is low.

What is SORBITAN CAPRYLATE used for in skincare?
Sorbitan Caprylate is an ester made from sorbitol and caprylic acid. It helps oil and water stay mixed, improves product texture and may boost a preservation system by supporting control of unwanted microbes in the formula. It is often combined with glycols, organic acids and other emulsifiers in creams, cleansers and low-preservative systems.
