POTASSIUM OLIVATE
Is POTASSIUM OLIVATE safe for seborrheic dermatitis?
Potassium Olivate keeps its lower-concern editorial label, but the finished soap may be too alkaline or cleansing for an active seborrheic dermatitis flare. Its purpose is to lift oils and help emulsify a formula, not to treat the condition.
Potassium Olivate contains fatty-acid salts rather than free fatty acids or intact olive oil, so the usual Malassezia culture findings do not transfer directly. Research on selected potassium fatty-acid soaps in wound cleansing also cannot prove benefit here. Judge the cleanser by its final pH, contact time and whether it leaves skin tight, itchy or red.

What is POTASSIUM OLIVATE used for in skincare?
Potassium Olivate is made by reacting olive oil fatty acids with potassium hydroxide to form a water-soluble soap. It cleanses, produces lather and helps oils disperse in water, but can contribute an alkaline feel. It is commonly combined with other potassium soaps, glycerin, oils and botanical extracts in liquid soaps and traditional cleansers.
