PINENE
Is PINENE safe for seborrheic dermatitis?
Pinene is context-dependent for seborrheic dermatitis. It gives products a fresh pine-like scent and is not a treatment, while fragrance can be an unnecessary irritation variable during an active flare.
An alpha-pinene fragrance safety assessment supports intended exposures, but the broader INCI name and the complete fragrance blend still matter. There is no direct human seb derm or ingredient-specific Malassezia evidence. If a scented leave-on product repeatedly increases burning, redness or itching, switching to a fragrance-free formula is more useful than trying to prove which fragrance molecule caused it.

What is PINENE used for in skincare?
Pinene is a volatile terpene found in pine and many essential oils, commonly present as alpha- and beta-pinene isomers. It contributes a fresh, woody or resinous scent and may be part of a larger fragrance composition. In skincare it is used for sensory character rather than hydration, barrier repair or seb derm control.
