PEG-12 DIMETHICONE
Is PEG-12 DIMETHICONE safe for seborrheic dermatitis?
PEG-12 Dimethicone keeps its lower-concern editorial label for seborrheic dermatitis. It improves slip, helps silicone disperse in water and can soften the feel of cleansers or conditioners; it is not a treatment.
Its silicone backbone and polyethylene-glycol side chains are different from free fatty acids or plant oils, so the usual Malassezia lipid screen does not directly apply. No exact human seb derm or yeast study was found. The complete formula still matters: a silicone-containing cleanser can be gentle or harsh depending on the surrounding surfactants, fragrance and preservatives.

What is PEG-12 DIMETHICONE used for in skincare?
PEG-12 Dimethicone is dimethicone modified with water-compatible polyethylene-glycol chains. This makes it useful as a conditioning agent, wetting aid and silicone emulsifier while keeping a smooth, low-friction feel. It is commonly combined with other silicones, surfactants, conditioning polymers and humectants in cleansers, shampoos, serums and leave-on products.
