PALMITIC ACID
Is PALMITIC ACID safe for seborrheic dermatitis?
Palmitic Acid is best treated as a cautious avoid during an active seb derm flare or when you are following a strict Malassezia-conscious routine. It is a C16 fatty acid, and a laboratory study found efficient growth of two Malassezia species when palmitic acid was supplied in a defined liquid medium. That is a meaningful theoretical concern, but it is not proof that every finished product will trigger symptoms.
The study did not test skincare products or people, and the result depended on specific laboratory conditions. Concentration, product type and the wider formula can all change real-world exposure, so a small amount in a rinse-off product is not equivalent to a fatty-acid-rich leave-on cream. If you want the simplest cautious choice during a flare, choose a formula without Palmitic Acid. Otherwise, stop if a product repeatedly increases itching, redness, tightness or stinging.

What is PALMITIC ACID used for in skincare?
Palmitic Acid is a fatty acid used as an emollient and emulsifying surfactant. Put simply, it can help a product feel smoother on skin and help oily and watery parts of a formula blend together. That is a formulation role, not evidence that it treats seborrheic dermatitis.
