OLEIC ACID
Is OLEIC ACID safe for seborrheic dermatitis?
Oleic Acid is best treated as a cautious avoid during an active seb derm flare or when you are following a strict Malassezia-conscious routine. It is a C18 unsaturated fatty acid used for conditioning and formulation, and laboratory evidence shows that it supported Malassezia growth in laboratory systems and has been used to model dandruff-related irritation in susceptible scalp skin. That is a meaningful theoretical concern, but it does not prove that every product containing Oleic Acid will worsen seborrheic dermatitis.
Human skin testing outside seb derm also found more barrier disruption with oleic acid than with the other tested fatty acids, adding an irritation reason for caution. A small amount in a rinse-off product is also a different exposure from a fatty-acid-rich leave-on cream. If you want the simplest option during a flare, choose a formula without Oleic Acid; otherwise stop if a product repeatedly increases itching, redness, tightness or stinging.

What is OLEIC ACID used for in skincare?
Oleic Acid is a fatty acid used mainly for skin conditioning and formulation support. It may help a product spread, feel more emollient or keep oily and watery ingredients together. Those jobs describe product texture and delivery; they do not establish a benefit for seborrheic dermatitis.
