OLEA EUROPAEA FRUIT OIL
Is OLEA EUROPAEA FRUIT OIL safe for seborrheic dermatitis?
Olea Europaea Fruit Oil, or olive oil, deserves caution on seborrheic-dermatitis-prone skin. A small adult forearm study found that repeated neat olive-oil application reduced skin-barrier integrity and caused mild redness. That was not a seb derm study, but it makes heavy leave-on use less appealing when the barrier is already inflamed.
Strict Malassezia-screening routines also avoid olive oil because it contains long-chain lipids, and laboratory work shows that Malassezia can use free oleic and palmitic acids. This remains a theoretical formula-screening concern, not proof that every product containing a small amount will cause a flare. Prefer a lighter, well-tolerated formula and stop if symptoms repeatedly worsen.
