MYRISTYL ALCOHOL
Is MYRISTYL ALCOHOL safe for seborrheic dermatitis?
Myristyl Alcohol is not the same as drying alcohol denat., but it is still worth treating cautiously during an active seb derm flare. It is a C14 primary fatty alcohol. Laboratory research found that primary fatty alcohols in this chain-length range could support Malassezia growth, although this exact ingredient was not isolated in a human seb derm study. That makes it a theoretical screening concern, not a proven trigger.
Myristyl Alcohol can still make a formula feel smooth, rich and less drying, so avoiding it is a precaution rather than a medical rule. Species, concentration and the complete formula can change the result. During a flare, a formula without long-chain primary fatty alcohols is the simpler option; otherwise stop if it repeatedly increases itching, redness or stinging.

What is MYRISTYL ALCOHOL used for in skincare?
Myristyl Alcohol is used as an emollient and consistency ingredient. It can help a cream feel smoother, build thickness and support a stable texture. Its role is largely sensory and structural, and the word alcohol should not be read as proof that it will behave like ethanol.
