LAURETH-3
Is LAURETH-3 safe for seborrheic dermatitis?
Laureth-3 is context-dependent for seborrheic dermatitis. It helps oils disperse, supports cleansing and can build texture, but it is not an antifungal or anti-inflammatory treatment.
Laureth-3 contains a lauryl chain chemically bound within an ethoxylated surfactant, so evidence about free lauric acid should not be transferred automatically. No exact human seb derm or ingredient-specific Malassezia study was found. Because it is relatively oil-friendly, it often appears within mixed emulsifier systems; the complete concentration, pH and surrounding surfactants determine whether the product feels mild or stripping.

What is LAURETH-3 used for in skincare?
Laureth-3 is lauryl alcohol modified with an average of three ethylene-oxide units. Its balance of oil and water affinity makes it useful as a nonionic emulsifier, cleansing helper and texture ingredient. It is commonly paired with higher-ethoxylated laureths, fatty alcohols, oils and primary surfactants in creams, hair colour, cleansers and conditioners.
