IODOPROPYNYL BUTYLCARBAMATE
Is IODOPROPYNYL BUTYLCARBAMATE safe for seborrheic dermatitis?
Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate is context-dependent for seborrheic dermatitis. It protects a product from microbial contamination, but it does not treat Malassezia on the skin and can cause contact allergy in a small minority of people.
Large patch-test data found a relatively low positive-reaction frequency among selected dermatitis patients, not zero risk. Cosmetic rules also limit where and how much may be used. If a preserved product causes a repeat itchy rash, stop it and consider professional patch testing rather than assuming it is a seb derm flare.
