GLYCYRRHETINIC ACID
Is GLYCYRRHETINIC ACID safe for seborrheic dermatitis?
Glycyrrhetinic Acid is generally suitable within the cosmetic uses reviewed. Human seb derm studies include it in particular multi-ingredient shampoos, but those studies do not establish the acid’s independent benefit.
One small uncontrolled pilot tested a complex with several active ingredients; its stated percentage was not the amount of pure glycyrrhetinic acid. Another maintenance study tested a shampoo with other treatment ingredients. Their design and formulation limits prevent attributing the outcome or Malassezia changes to this acid alone. Consider the finished product and seek a pharmacist’s advice about persistent symptoms or a treatment choice.

What is GLYCYRRHETINIC ACID used for in skincare?
Glycyrrhetinic Acid is listed for skin conditioning. It should be distinguished from whole liquorice extract, glycyrrhizic acid and differently modified derivatives. A conditioning function is separate from clinical efficacy, and a multi-active shampoo’s findings do not become a dose recommendation for an ordinary cosmetic.
