ETHANOLAMINE
Is ETHANOLAMINE safe for seborrheic dermatitis?
Ethanolamine is context-dependent for seborrheic dermatitis. It is used to adjust pH rather than treat seb derm, and the cosmetic safety assessment supports rinse-off use only when the finished product is formulated to avoid irritation.
No direct human seb derm or ingredient-specific Malassezia evidence was found. Because raw ethanolamine is alkaline, the final pH, concentration and rinse-off format matter much more than seeing the name on its own. Avoid a product that repeatedly stings or leaves already-inflamed skin red, and do not assume a leave-on use has the same evidence support.

What is ETHANOLAMINE used for in skincare?
Ethanolamine is an amino alcohol mainly used to raise or fine-tune the pH of rinse-off cosmetics. It can also help form surfactant salts or support cleansing and hair-colour systems. Formulators use small controlled amounts so the complete product reaches its intended pH rather than for a direct skincare benefit.
