CETEARYL OLIVATE
Is CETEARYL OLIVATE safe for seborrheic dermatitis?
Cetearyl Olivate is context-dependent for seborrheic dermatitis. It is an emulsifier and emollient made with olive-derived fatty acids, not a treatment, and strict Malassezia-conscious routines often screen this type of long-chain ester.
That concern is theoretical: laboratory studies on free fatty acids did not test Cetearyl Olivate, its hydrolysis in a finished cream or people with seb derm. Many formulas use it as part of a stable emulsifying system, so concentration and the other oils matter. During an active flare, an olivate-free alternative is the simpler cautious option if one is readily available.

What is CETEARYL OLIVATE used for in skincare?
Cetearyl Olivate is an ester made from cetearyl alcohol and fatty acids derived from olive oil. It helps oil and water form a stable cream while also adding softness, slip and a conditioned feel. It is often combined with Sorbitan Olivate, fatty alcohols and plant oils in moisturisers and sunscreens.
