CAPRYLIC ACID
Is CAPRYLIC ACID safe for seborrheic dermatitis?
Caprylic Acid is not automatically unsuitable for seborrheic dermatitis, but there is not good human evidence that it treats the condition. Its published cosmetic assessment focuses on safe formulation rather than seb derm benefit. The ingredient can be used in cosmetics when the finished product is made to avoid irritation and sensitisation, so the complete formula matters more than the name alone.
Concentrated Caprylic Acid caused substantial irritation in laboratory studies, while lower tested concentrations were less irritating. Those raw-material tests do not predict the feel of a normal cleanser, but they explain the caution around concentration and formulation. Do not confuse Caprylic Acid with Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride: they are related names, not the same ingredient.

What is CAPRYLIC ACID used for in skincare?
Caprylic Acid, also called octanoic acid, is a straight-chain saturated fatty acid with eight carbon atoms. In cosmetic formulas it is reported as a fragrance ingredient and a cleansing surfactant, meaning it may help give a product its scent or help lift oily material during washing. It is also a chemical building block for other caprylic ingredients. Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride and caprylyl glycol have different structures and functions, so their evidence should not be transferred to free Caprylic Acid.
