BENZOPHENONE-3
Is BENZOPHENONE-3 safe for seborrheic dermatitis?
Benzophenone-3 is context-dependent for seborrheic dermatitis. It protects formulas and skin from ultraviolet light where permitted, but it does not treat seb derm and can cause contact or photoallergic reactions in a small minority of people.
A large patch-test series found positive reactions in 0.5% of referred dermatitis patients, a group already selected for suspected allergy. That is not a general-population rate, and many people tolerate the filter. If sunscreen is needed, keep using sun protection but consider another fragrance-free formula if this ingredient repeatedly causes an exposed-site rash.

What is BENZOPHENONE-3 used for in skincare?
Benzophenone-3, also called oxybenzone, is an organic UV filter that absorbs ultraviolet radiation. It may protect skin in sunscreens or help prevent light from degrading a formula, subject to regional limits. It is commonly combined with other UV filters, film formers, emollients and antioxidants in sunscreens, moisturisers and colour cosmetics.
